Protecting the water environment from pollution is a key part of government legislation across the world.

Understanding pollution history and providing strategies to mitigate against watercourse pollution and predicting sewer network failures can enable pollution prevention and avoid significant financial penalties.

Regardless of the source, we identify pollution and compliance risks for our clients, through catchment scale surveillance monitoring, sampling and laboratory testing, spatial risk analysis, targeted pollutant monitoring, and detailed mathematical modelling of sewers, upstream catchments and receiving waters. By considering social implications alongside environmental and economic concerns, we ensure that our clients' investments are sustainable and pragmatic.

Water Insight Brochure

Lessons learned from a large scale Water Framework Directive (WFD) programme. The Water Framework Directive (WFD) introduced a holistic approach to the management of water quality. In the UK the aim is to have waterbodies achieving ‘Good’ ecological status by 2027. There are five status classifications for normal waterbodies: High, Good, Moderate, Poor and Bad. Intermittent discharges from Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO’s) and Storm tanks have the potential to influence compliance with the WFD, as they are a source of polluting materials.
