Regional Broome Airport Lounge
RPS provided Project Management and Superintendent’s Representative services for the refurbishment and fit-out of the Qantas Broome Airport Regional Lounge. Delivered across the full project lifecycle, from design development and tender preparation through to construction, handover and defects liability, the project created a comfortable, functional lounge space designed to support up to 100 travellers and enhance the airport experience.
The challenge
The project’s heavily guest-focused objectives drove a complex design brief that needed to maximise seating capacity while maintaining comfort and ease of movement. Delivery also required management of a complex internal and external stakeholder network across both design and construction phases, as well as the practical constraints of working within a live airport environment.
A key requirement of the project brief was ensuring a First Nations’ connection was incorporated into the design, ultimately delivered through a bespoke, locally designed and crafted artwork.
Our approach
RPS supported Qantas through an end-to-end project management approach across design, procurement and delivery. This included guiding design development and tender preparation while coordinating stakeholders to ensure project objectives, critical success factors and requirements were met effectively.
RPS led the procurement process and engaged a Head Contractor in June 2024. Following construction commencement in September 2024, our team provided active delivery oversight through to handover.
Throughout construction, RPS added value by acting as a conduit between the client, contractor and landlord, ensuring proper processes and procedures were followed and works progressed effectively within the live airport environment.
The result
Practical Completion was achieved in February 2025. The project was delivered within budget and on time, supporting a soft opening aligned with Qantas’ operational requirements.
The completed refurbishment delivers an enhanced regional lounge experience for Qantas customers travelling through Broome, providing a more spacious and comfortable environment that responds to strong demand for premium travel in the region. The new lounge reflects the unique character of the Kimberley, with a design that draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape and creates a strong sense of place for travellers from the moment they arrive.
By increasing capacity and improving the overall layout, the space supports a more seamless and enjoyable customer experience for both business and leisure travellers. The inclusion of locally designed and crafted artwork further strengthens the connection to the region, contributing to a welcoming and distinctly Western Australian lounge environment that aligns with Qantas’ broader investment in its regional network.
