PolAir Bankstown

RPS has provided project and program management services to Sydney Metro Airports to facilitate the delivery of a new facility for the NSW Police Aviation Support Branch.

Challenge

The New South Wales Police Force had requested the delivery of a new facility serving the requirements of its PolAir division, in proximity to Bankstown Airport. The project came with several specific requirements regarding capabilities, and there was significant ecological concern regarding a specific and near extinct plant known as Hibbertia sp. Bankstown.

Solution

RPS project managed the delivery of the new facility, which involved early communication with contractors regarding buildability as well as extensive engagement with stakeholders to collate as much detailed input on the project as possible.

Our team ended up delivering the facility with all the custom specifications requested by the client, including:

·         A fire sprinkler system which includes both foam and water suppression, discharged at a rapid rate to protect high-value assets such as helicopters and planes

·         A one million-litre underground water tank to prevent stormwater contamination

·         A specialised paint spray booth to facilitate the painting of entire helicopters

·         A spray nozzle for cleaning helicopters flown near or over salt water

The finished site includes 3000 square metres of office space split across two levels, as well as 7500 square metres of hangar space and attached taxiways, carparks and landscaped areas. The total footprint of the combined facilities is more than 25,000 square metres.
