Continuous Water Quality Monitoring
With decades of experience and a global footprint, we work alongside world-renowned water custodians and regulatory environmental agencies to support our clients with Continuous Water Quality Monitoring (CWQM), including Water Sampling & Collection, Section-82 Monitoring and more. We help clients implement, monitor, and report against CWQM commitments, with nationwide expertise and zero guesswork, ensuring water quality compliance.
Full service support nationwide
With increasing regulatory demands and growing environmental attention on waterways, safeguarding the health of rivers and streams is more crucial than ever. At Tetra Tech, we combine decades of experience and expertise with the latest technology to enable you with dependable water quality monitoring services.
An End-To-End Approach
Under the Environment Act 2021, Water and Sewage Companies (WASCs) are now required to continuously monitor water quality for both upstream and downstream of discharges to water courses. It requires water companies to monitor around 27,500 storm overflow outfalls across England. Achieving full compliance with Section-82 is a significant operational and regulatory challenge, demanding robust solutions for accurate monitoring.
This marks a major step forward in environmental accountability and one of the largest transformations in water quality monitoring globally.
As per the Section-82 guidelines, 25% of all sites, which includes all high priority sites must have monitoring in place by 2030, which also include any assets that discharge to Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), Special Areas of Conservation (SACs), Urban Wastewater Treatment Regulations sensitive areas, Chalk streams, any assets within 5km upstream of designated inland or estuarine bathing waters and Waters currently failing WFD ecological standards due to storm overflows or final effluent.

Smarter Monitoring for a Cleaner Future
Improvements to water quality, start with better data.
By tracking the impact of discharges and runoff in real time, we can better understand how day-to-day operations effect local watercourses and take meaningful action to reduce harm. These efforts support the goals of the Storm Overflow Discharge Reduction Plan, helping drive progress toward healthier rivers and lakes.
We can provide support to our clients in the rollout of water quality monitoring and by using HydroWeb, we can also provide support for hosting, visualising and analysing Water Quality monitoring data alongside data from EDM's rainfall monitors, flow and level monitors and more.
Connected at all levels, we understand the need for an end-to-end tailored service dedicated to continuous water quality monitoring, data collection and analysis.
We offer a complete range of scalable in-house services, working closely with our accredited Laboratory, Planning, Water Quality Modelling and Geospatial teams to support you throughout any point of your CWQM journey.
