RPS project manager appointed to Australian Army
RPS is proud to announce that project manager James Southgate has been appointed to the Australian Army’s 19th Chief Engineer Works unit, commencing in 2026.
James’ appointment will see him contribute his project management to strengthen the Army’s capabilities, while also representing an outstanding career development opportunity within Defence.
He is the third RPS employee to be appointed under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between RPS and the Australian Defence Force in 2022. This agreement enables the Army to collaborate with Australian industry partners to deliver priority projects and provide specialist technical skills in support of Defence.
James was formally sworn in as a member of the Australian Defence Force at a ceremony in Adelaide, where he was commissioned as a Captain in the Army Reserve. Having worked across RPS’ Melbourne and Adelaide offices, he brings a depth of professional experience and strong technical capability to the role.
Reflecting on his appointment, James said:
“I am deeply grateful for the support RPS has provided throughout this appointment process. The encouragement from colleagues and leaders has been invaluable, and I look forward to representing both the Army and RPS as I begin this next chapter in my career.”
Over the coming months, James will undertake the Specialist Service Officer First Appointment Course before commencing full-time service in January 2026.
RPS’ Executive Director and executive sponsor for veteran welfare and wellbeing, Geoff de Jongh, said James’ appointment reflects the company’s commitment to supporting veterans and Defence initiatives:
“RPS has a long and proud history with the Australian Defence Force. Supporting James on his journey, and creating opportunities like this through our Defence partnerships, is part of our ongoing commitment to veterans, serving members, and their families. We’re proud to stand behind James and wish him every success in his Army career.”
