Operational Director - Transaction Advisory & Due Diligence
James leads a consultancy team of UK-wide environmental specialists with deep expertise in transactional advisory support, planning & development services and operational compliance. Technical services include environmental auditing, risk/liability management, contaminated land, hydrology and flood risk, built energy and sustainability, ESG and EMS - further supported by a range of wider RPS environmental disciplines.
With over 20 years’ experience, James manages environmental liabilities for M&A, investment, vendor and refinance programmes across the UK, Europe and globally. Working with a privileged client list, James has supported a range of high profile corporate deals and real estate transactions covering industrial, retail/leisure, logistics and offices, along with hotels, student housing, healthcare and energy sectors, comprising single-site assets to portfolios of 200+ sites. His client base include private equity, venture capital, legal firms, industrials, institutional investors, pension funds, banks, developers and multinationals.
With deals typically required within short time frames, he works closely with his clients to clearly identify risks within a commercial context, minimise exposure and enable them to structure environmental expenditure appropriately and enhance both asset value and saleability. He has also led the development of specialist environmental risk models for large multi-site transaction screenings.
James is a Chartered Environmentalist and has been an accredited Environmental Auditor with the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) since 2000.
