Victorian Government regional office and depot
RPS has supported the Victorian Government to develop new regional facilities that are enhancing emergency services capacity for the state.
Challenge
With harsh weather conditions a key feature of Australian life, emergency preparedness and response capability is a key consideration for state and territory governments.
Understanding the threat that extreme weather events like bushfires and floods can pose to communities, the Victorian Government has invested in new emergency services infrastructure for its regions.
A new-look depot for regional Victoria
Solution
RPS was commissioned to support the development of a state-of-the-art, $10.3 million office and depot development that would help Forest Fire Management Victoria respond to and manage bushfires and other emergencies.
Our Victorian project management team managed a major redesign process, and negotiated with the contractor for significant variations to the original contract. We also supported the Victorian Government to secure additional project funding and reset the project’s cost and time baselines saving the client significant additional costs.
Now complete, the project included the construction of new depot sheds and infrastructure, office facilities and an Incident Control Centre that allows for rapid deployment during emergencies. The facility’s design incorporates environmentally sustainable features such as energy-efficient appliances and lighting, solar panels, rainwater harvesting tanks, shading and high-performance glazing.
