Peggy Banfield Park, Townsville

RPS has worked with Townsville City Council to design and facilitate a staged expansion of Peggy Banfield Park in Townsville’s growing Northern Beaches area.

Challenge

Peggy Banfield Park is a district-level sports park at Bushland Beach which required redevelopment and expansion to provide additional recreational opportunities in the fast-growing Northern Beaches corridor. The funding approach meant that the works needed to be delivered in a staged approach.

Solution

RPS’ local landscape architecture team led the coordinated delivery of this state-funded project with support and input from our survey, planning, and environmental teams, and external partners such as irrigation designers, cultural heritage consultants, civil, hydraulic, and structural engineers.

Working closely with Council, the entire project has been documented to allow for stage construction, giving Townville City Council the flexibility in deliver new phases of work as funding becomes available.

Stages 1 and 2 have been delivered, including upgraded rugby league fields, a new inclusive playground node, a fitness circuit, and an oval. Townsville’s largest dog park has also been created as part of the works.

Working closely with Council and our engineering partners, RPS was able to solve issues relating to water network issues, flood constraints, and future power supply provisions.
