Working with Townsville City Council, RPS’ local landscape architecture team has completed the detailed design and documentation of a much-loved local recreation space – Corcoran Park.
With existing facilities in the park dilapidated, disconnected and underutilised, a small pool of funding was secured to revitalise and update the space. RPS partnered with Council to develop the design for Stage 1 of a broader strategy for the park, with design and construction works to be conducted in a tight timeline to meet funding conditions.
Working with Townsville City Council’s delivery team, RPS created a structure plan with a focus on improving connectivity and utilising natural shade to build on an existing playground node. The final design included traffic themed play spaces, a ninja parkour course, a learn to ride track and shaded picnic facilities.
The scope also included innovative play items such as an interactive electronic playground and an outdoor ping-pong table, while a new pathway network would connect the park to other recreational facilities nearby. Â
