RPS has provided a red flag assessment for a potential battery energy storage system (BESS) in Gympie, Queensland.
As Australia incorporates more electricity generated from renewable sources, demand for battery energy storage systems increases to support the intermittent nature of solar and wind. TagEnergy is a renewables and storage developer and is proposing to build a battery energy storage system (BESS) near an existing substation in Gympie, Queensland. The company engaged RPS to undertake a red flag assessment for the proposed BESS project.
The work involved a desktop planning and environmental assessment as well as a pre-development consultation with local authorities. RPS provided a report that identified matters of relevance and potential impacts on the proposed project, via a traffic light assessment. The red flag assessment also confirmed all reporting requirements for the battery project including application fees and timeframes.
