ANU Embedded Project Management Support
The Australian National University (ANU) is delivering a range of campus works across its Acton Campus to support learning, staff, student, accessibility and operational requirements.
RPS provides embedded in-house project management support to supplement ANU's delivery capability. The engagement supports projects from scoping and feasibility through design, procurement, construction, handover and defects management.
The support spans a diverse portfolio of campus works, including teaching and staff space refurbishments, sport and amenities upgrades, building remediation and compliance works, roads, DDA access and security improvements and new pathway connections.
The challenge
ANU is progressing varied campus projects within a live university environment, where delivery needs to consider students, staff, operations, consultants, contractors and multiple internal stakeholder groups.
The engagement requires clear communication pathways, stronger stakeholder input into project planning and consistent project management processes across works of different scale, complexity and contract model.
For the DA Brown refurbishment, ANU required a significant refurbishment of approximately 2,100 square metres of existing building area on Level 2 to support its Pathways College. The scope includes flexible teaching and learning spaces, study spaces, a computer lab, staff areas, amenities, breakout spaces, a welcoming entry and building services replacement, with minor supporting works on Level 1 and externally.
Our approach
RPS provides embedded project management and contract administration support within ANU's delivery environment, helping manage day-to-day project activity while supporting broader coordination across campus works and enhancing ANU’s internal delivery capability.
RPS helped establish working groups across multiple ANU stakeholder groups, creating a more structured way to capture inputs, clarify requirements and support project decision-making.
The embedded role supports end-to-end delivery activities, including scoping and feasibility, design coordination, procurement, construction phase management, handover, defects management, contract administration, stakeholder management, risk management and reporting.

DA Brown refurbishment: Refurbishment of an existing building to support ANU Pathways College, including new teaching and learning spaces, study spaces, a computer lab, staff areas, amenities, breakout spaces, building services replacement and supporting entry and external works.

ANU Sport amenities upgrade: Upgrade of existing amenities, electrical distribution boards and fire compliance measures, including investigation and upgrades to fire compartmentation between connected buildings.

Roads, DDA and Pathways: Campus works supporting damaged road upgrades, DDA access improvements, crossing points and new pathway connections to improve movement across the Acton Campus.
The result
RPS is helping ANU strengthen delivery capability across a varied portfolio of campus works by providing embedded project management, contract administration and stakeholder coordination support.
The engagement has supported clearer communication pathways, more structured stakeholder input and stronger coordination across projects that involve multiple internal users, consultants, contractors and operational interfaces.
By working as part of the client-side delivery environment, RPS provides continuity, practical project management discipline and delivery support across projects that improve teaching spaces, campus amenities, accessibility and operational infrastructure.
