C-17A Maintenance Facility Project, Queensland
Australia's Department of Defence called on project specialists from RPS to manage the delivery of new aircraft maintenance and support facilities for Royal Australian Airforce's C-17A Globemaster III fleet at RAAF Base Amberley.
Managing the delivery of new facilities for Globemaster fleet
RAAF Amberley is home to the Australian Air Force’s entire fleet of C-17As and Defence identified the need for new facilities and infrastructure to better support aircraft maintenance and operational capability.
With C-17A maintenance currently conducted either on the RAAF Base Amberley flight line or its KC-30A Maintenance Hangar, the project would provide a dedicated hangar that is purpose-built for the aircraft, along with a new aircraft parking apron, multiple workshops, and support areas.
The new maintenance hangar incorporates a telescopic docking system - a first for Australian aircraft maintenance. This flexible, unfixed machinery helps the RAAF to maintain the C-17s with ease and can be used to maintain most types of Defence aircraft.
RPS leadership on critical Defence initiative
Drawing on our many years of experience contributing technical expertise and managing Defence projects all over Australia, RPS was engaged as the lead project manager for this $219 million program of works.
With complex technical, engineering and security requirements for the upgrade along with other works happening on base at the same time, the program has required expert program directorship and full-time project management support on the ground.
