Picton Road upgrade dashboard
RPS' data analytics and insights team designed an interactive dashboard to capture community feedback for the Picton Road upgrade in NSW.
Proposed upgrade
When a government wants to upgrade its transport infrastructure, it often needs to consult with the community that will be affected by the project or major works.
This was the case with the planned upgrade of Picton Road in New South Wales. Transport for New South Wales (the state government’s transport department) describes Picton Road as an important transport corridor linking the Illawarra Region with Sydney and the Greater Macarthur growth area.
The project’s aims were to improve safety, support growing communities and businesses and provide reliable access to employment, education and recreation.
Interactive dashboard delivers engagement insights
Twenty-first century engagement
RPS was engaged by the Southern Region of the NSW government’s transport department to design and deliver an extensive community engagement program. The program needed to gather community and key stakeholder feedback about the proposed Picton Road upgrade.
As part of a comprehensive offering, RPS designed a web-based digital dashboard to provide an innovative method of interacting with the community. The dashboard was made available on the department's website.
The dashboard gave the community and stakeholders more flexibility to engage - to learn about the project and voice their opinions, provide feedback and make suggestions at times that suited them. This was particularly important during Covid-related health restrictions.
RPS’ data insights and creative teams also designed the dashboard to publicly show some of the early results of the engagement program.
The data gathered via the dashboard complemented the information obtained from traditional community engagement activities.
