Digital dashboard for NSW road classification review
RPS created a digital asset to collect and analyse road classification information for the NSW state government’s transport department.
State-wide road review
The New South Wales Government decided to conduct a review of its roads to assess whether the current classifications for roads were accurate and appropriate, and whether some of them needed to be transferred from one authority to another.
At the same time, the NSW Government announced it had returned 15,000 kilometres of council-owned roads back to state management. The government said the announcement of the review and transfer were to provide transparency in any changes – and to support the development of an integrated road transport network.
An independent panel was developed and submissions invited, including from councils. The panel would then make recommendations on road transfers and reclassifications as well as areas of road maintenance policy.
More than 500 submissions were received as part of the review.
Digital solution
RPS was appointed to provide an independent assessment of the submissions received as part of the review process.
Our team created a digital asset to collate and evaluate the large volume of information efficiently and effectively. The data analytics team also built tools to collect data from various web forms and format into a standardised template.
The digital asset was designed to collect information, keep accurate records for probity purposes, and assist with rapid decision-making
The submissions and evaluations were integrated and presented in an easy-to-use digital dashboard. Our team members used the web-based dashboard to present their findings in a clear way to the independent panel. This method of presentation was credited with speeding up the panel’s ability to make decisions and recommendations.
