Maturity assessment and capability uplift program for Power and Water Corporation
Enhancing the Northern Territory's Power and Water
RPS is supporting the Northern Territory (NT) Government-owned utilities provider, Power and Water Corporation to enhance its delivery capability and capacity through enhanced portfolio management systems, tools and capabilities.
Revealing uplift opportunities through maturity assessment
With an increased and growing capital portfolio to manage, Power and Water Corporation was looking for opportunities to generate greater efficiency, improve overall engagement and performance, uplift business prioritisation and reduce risk.
RPS was engaged to complete a maturity assessment and develop a capability uplift strategy (including an implementation roadmap) that would improve the organisation’s existing Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO). The maturity assessment revealed opportunities to better define roles, responsibilities, processes, performance reporting, business and risk prioritisation, and communication to better support and build a portfolio mindset and improve enterprise-level collaboration.
A practical plan for EPMO improvement
Our team developed a suite of plans and practical tools focused on uplifting the capability of Power and Water Corporation’s EPMO. Working closely with internal stakeholders, we designed and developed a ‘centre-led’ transformation roadmap to guide the implementation phase to follow – this included a comprehensive review and gap analysis of current management standards, procedures, models and templates, and interactive workshops with Power and Water’s teams.
Using this information, the next step was a redesign of the EPMO’s Portfolio Management Standard. This new operating procedure builds on a refreshed EPMO governance framework, documentation, and ways of working, and clearly articulates the organisation’s portfolio of services in line with its strategic objectives.
A comprehensive improvement delivery plan and supporting tools were then developed to ensure the EPMO roadmap is successfully implemented, while a revised reporting framework was developed to support evidence-based decision-making by leaders.
RPS is continuing to support Power and Water Corporation as it embarks on the next phase of its capability uplift journey - where all of these plans, initiatives and improvements will be brought to life.
