Marinus Link community and consumer engagement

RPS is working with Marinus Link to build strong relationships with local communities to support the development of a new electricity interconnector between Tasmania and Victoria.

For Victoria> Projects

Challenge

The National Electricity Market is transforming as coal-fired generation continues to retire and variable renewable generation, such as wind and solar, take its place. Marinus Link is a proposed 1500 megawatt capacity undersea and underground electricity connection to further link Tasmania and Victoria as part of Australia’s future electricity grid.

Solution

RPS was appointed in late 2020 to provide specialist communications and community engagement support for the project’s planning and design phase. RPS has delivered an initial phase of an engagement program across Tasmania and Victoria to support the release of the proposed Marinus Link route and raise awareness of the project. This involved information sessions, pop-up information booths and workshop. We have also worked with Marinus Link to establish Stakeholder Liaison Groups in Gippsland and north-west Tasmania.

RPS is also providing advice on community benefit sharing models to help the Marinus Link team realise the significant social benefits of the project.

In addition, we are providing advice on consumer engagement to meet the Australian Energy Regulator’s requirements.
