Jemalong solar farm

RPS has prepared modification reports to support the amendment of an existing planning approval for Jemalong Solar Farm in New South Wales.

Challenge

Jemalong Solar Farm is a photovoltaic installation and on-site sub-station under development near the rural township of Forbes. While development consent for the project was issued by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment in May 2018, following acquisition of the project by Genex Power in 2019, a decision was made to request modifications to the approval.

RPS was engaged to develop a report that would support the proposed changes and has since prepared a number of additional modification reports to help Genex Power develop and refine Jemalong Solar Farm’s design.

Solution

RPS consultants from Sydney and Brisbane worked collaboratively with the Jemalong project team to create modification documentation that clearly described the series of changes, while identifying and assessing any environmental impacts that would result.

Our environmental specialists undertook technical studies to inform the reports and our planning consultants have provided approval and consent modification advice to help Genex Power successfully navigate the consenting process.

Once approved, both our approvals and ecological teams continued to provide services that assisted with satisfying a number of the conditions associated with the modified consents to further the delivery of the project.

Once construction is complete and Jemalong Solar Farm is operational, the 50MW project is expected to generate up to 128,700MWh of electricity annually for the community of NSW.
