Engadine, Eastwood and Lane Cove School Infrastructure Completion Program
School Infrastructure NSW engaged our team to provide client-side project management services for the construction delivery of three Sydney metropolitan school infrastructure projects: Engadine High School, Eastwood Public School and Lane Cove Public School.
The program brought together three incomplete school infrastructure projects that had been stranded after the previous contractor went into administration. Our role was to help regain delivery momentum and manage the projects through later-stage construction, commissioning and handover activities.
Engaged from October 2023, our team provided project management and contract administration support across the program, including subcontractor procurement under a Managing Contractor Contract methodology, construction contract administration and commissioning oversight. The work was delivered in line with School Infrastructure NSW development processes and guidelines, with a focus on value for money, quality and practical outcomes for the school communities.
The challenge
The program required fast, disciplined intervention across three active education sites. Each project had different school needs and delivery conditions, but all required clear control of procurement, contracts, construction activity, commissioning and handover after the previous contractor could no longer complete the works.
The Eastwood Public School need to be handed back to the School Infrastructure NSW Asset Management team to manage the delivery once all specialist trades were engaged.
This created a complex delivery environment. The amended GC21 contract incorporated Managing Contractor provisions, requiring active management of subcontractor procurement and construction administration rather than a standard lump sum delivery approach.
The projects also needed to be delivered in operating school environments, where safety, continuity, communication and minimising disruption were critical. School Infrastructure NSW needed a delivery team that could integrate stakeholder inputs, control time and cost, support approvals and endorsements, and help achieve high-quality, low-maintenance school infrastructure.
Our approach
Our project managers provided client-side project management services across the later delivery and handover phases of the program. This included managing subcontractor procurement processes, administering construction contracts, overseeing commissioning and coordinating the inputs needed to keep the three projects moving.
The team worked within School Infrastructure NSW processes and guidelines, helping maintain delivery discipline across program, cost, quality, risk and stakeholder requirements. Practical contract administration and clear reporting supported decision-making as the projects progressed through construction and commissioning.
Because the works were being recovered from a disrupted delivery environment, our team focused on restoring structure and accountability. This meant coordinating with School Infrastructure NSW, managing interfaces with the contractor and subcontractors, monitoring delivery requirements, and supporting a controlled path to completion across all three schools.
The result
Our support helped School Infrastructure NSW progress a complex completion program across Engadine High School, Eastwood Public School and Lane Cove Public School.
At Engadine High School, the upgrade delivered a new multipurpose hall that includes a stage, storage for sports and performances, a multi-use sports court and amenities.
At Lane Cove Public School, the fire recovery project replaced buildings destroyed in a 2020 fire. The completed works include a new build for students and staff, with a canteen and restored playground area also delivered as part of the broader recovery program.
At Eastwood Public School, the Asset Management team at School Infrastructure NSW completed commissioning for school operation of the new three-storey building with nine modern classrooms, a new amenities block, practical activity areas and breakout spaces, with demountable classrooms removed from site.
For School Infrastructure NSW, our role helped bring structure, continuity and delivery confidence to three stranded projects. For the school communities, the completed facilities support safer, more functional and more flexible learning environments.
