RPS will carry out Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA) for SSE Renewables and their partners, the Japanese conglomerate Marubeni Corporation (Marubeni) and Danish fund management company Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
We have a 20-year history delivering renewables projects in the United Kingdom. Our teams based in Edinburgh and Aberdeen are currently leading the offshore consenting and licence activities for SSE Renewables on the Berwick Bank offshore wind farm project in Scotland, and this new project marks a continuation of the strong relationship between our two organisations.
Nicola Simpson, Technical director, Offshore Wind, said, “We are pleased to be working with SSE Renewables-Marubeni-CIP on this important floating offshore wind project, aiming for progress towards net-zero and supporting Scotland’s goals for fixed and floating offshore wind farms.”
The ScotWind offshore wind leasing process was the first in Scotland in over a decade, with 17 projects selected out of 74 applications. Development will support the Scottish government’s ambitions of delivering 25GW of electricity from offshore wind. More than half of this capacity will come from floating offshore wind.
The SSE Renewables-Marubeni-CIP partnership also plan to invest in various initiatives to benefit the Scottish economy, supporting the supply chain, energy transition from oil and gas, and the local community.
