Easily interpret data from coastal and marine environments using our advanced data ecosystems and interactive visualizations.Â
Every project in the coastal and marine environment requires reliable data and relevant analysis and visualization tools to support decisions. RPS has been working in these environments for more than 40 years and has amassed decades of data and experience in interpreting that data. We unlock the power of data enabling our clients to access, visualize and interpret a broad range of environmental data from around the globe. Our data catalog, the infrastructure we use to support it, and the web-based tools we use to interpret it comprise a true ecosystem of information that evolves with the changing world, keeping pace not only with improvements in data sources but also with evolving technology solutions. Â
RPS ensures only reliable data is used in projects we are involved in. External data sources are thoroughly researched and vetted before being used. We perform extensive data QA/QC and cleaning to ensure data is consistent and structured correctly for accurate analysis. We can also develop new data sources using our scientific, engineering, and geographic information system (GIS) expertise. In all cases, data is thoroughly documented with metadata records describing exact creation details and use specifications. Â
As an AWS Business Partner, we provide confidence that our platforms will be a flexible and secure cloud computing environment.   Â
Our expertise in data management is used across industry and government. We support clients in designing and implementing complex management systems and data integration frameworks, but also in application of that data to easily solve the problems that matter. We have supported the oil and gas sector for more than 30 years by improving understanding of an oil spill’s fate and transport and supporting oil spill response strategies.
RPS works with environmental data every day, and we are experts in the analysis, enhancement, and visualization of the data. We develop systems for the ingestion, storage, management, production, and dissemination of a variety of environmental data sources, data types, and delivery methods.
Our data management projects include met-ocean analyses, search and rescue work, marine transportation analysis, and water quality projects. Our systems provide for a rapid provision of subset data to software platforms used for maritime operations, where solution times are critical. These systems include those used for critical search, rescue, and recovery of personnel and equipment, maritime pollution, and offshore operations. Â
Our employees have an extensive background in a range of science disciplines, engineering, software development, and GIS. Our company culture is that of collaboration, it is easy to add value to any project by bringing a colleague with a specific knowledge base required onto a project. Our employees are passionate about the work that they do, which serves to create the best work products possible.
We are a world leader with a proven track record in delivering data management, analysis, and visualization systems to non-profit, government, and global energy clients.
Additionally, we have a core understanding of the underlying Great Lakes data sets and have the ability to apply and improve these and also provide alternatives where required. Interpretation, use, dissemination, and visualization of environmental data is a core business for RPS.
Data portals are a hub of trusted, expert-reviewed data for a specific geographic region, industry, or discipline. They provide a means to access data and analysis tools without any expert knowledge or specialized software and provide robust visualization and ways to interact with the data to help make informed insights. They can be used as a decision support tool to analyze data from multiple sources and disciplines and see how they interact and present those results in maps, charts, tables, etc. to clearly illustrate findings. With some data portals, users can view data using sets of curated maps and data by theme or alternatively, create custom maps that combine data from various data themes.
Often data is made available for download for use in external applications and further analysis. In the end, complex data is presented in an easy-to-read, visualize, and understandable solution.
RPS has been at the forefront of collecting, managing and distributing environmental data for various user needs for the past two decades. For over a decade, our operational Environmental Data Server (EDS) has been ingesting major met-ocean data sets such as the US Navy HYCOM and NCOM data sources, globalWW3, and observations such as drifters. These and many other sources, including buoy, profile, glider, logger, modeled, and remotely sensed data demonstrate our understanding and ability to work with, enhance and disseminate environmental data. The RPS EDS serves data for mission-critical activities for government agencies and industries worldwide.Â
Through this experience, we understand the issues associated with data source stability, variable update frequency, formatting and quality control requirements and the configuration required for a large variety of often custom-made data formats. Our strength has been in the ingestion of disparate formats and then ensuring availability through translation to common data formats, such as NetCDF, and other community standards in the earth and ocean science community. As an Esri partner, we develop compatible and embedded systems, for both desktop, AGOL and Portal implementations.
We have extended this experience with the development of advanced web-based visualization systems based on modern web coding as well as embedded into Esri applications, both desktop and online.
Growth of the offshore wind sector has led to a new set of challenges that can be addressed with our data and expertise, which can be applied to help site, plan, permit, develop, and monitor new offshore wind facilities by leveraging data related to ocean uses from all the various stakeholders (e.g., commercial fishing, recreation, marine transportation, marine life, etc.) and combining with information about ocean conditions. Â
