St Ives Hybrid Microgrid and Bellevue Hybrid Power Station
Our team were engaged to provide project management support during the feasibility and project development phases for two new hybrid power station projects in remote Western Australia.
The St Ives and Bellevue projects were developed to support mining operations with off-grid hybrid power solutions that combine renewable generation, battery storage and thermal generation. For remote mines, this type of system can reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-only power while maintaining the reliability needed for continuous operations.
Our project managers supported Energy Developments Pty Ltd (EDL) from the Perth office, helping progress development activities for hybrid power stations associated with the St Ives and Bellevue gold mines in Western Australia’s Goldfields region.
The challenge
Remote mining operations need power systems that are reliable, resilient and practical to deliver. At the same time, mining clients are under increasing pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition towards lower-carbon operations without compromising productivity or safety.
For the St Ives and Bellevue projects, the challenge was to progress early-stage development for technically complex hybrid power solutions across remote sites. The projects needed to bring together wind, solar, battery and thermal generation components, while also considering constructability, procurement, contracting, design coordination and staged delivery requirements.
This required clear project controls, disciplined coordination across design and delivery teams, and practical advice that could support decision-making through feasibility and project development.
Our approach
Our team provided project management support to help EDL progress both projects through early development. This included managing design teams, developing project programs, leading project and client meetings, and supporting procurement and contractual activities for work packages.
We also provided program and constructability review advice, helping test whether proposed delivery pathways were practical for remote construction environments and aligned with project objectives. Monthly reporting supported visibility of progress, risks and next steps across the development program.
Our role brought structure to a complex development environment, helping coordinate people, information and decisions across multiple workstreams. This practical project management support helped EDL maintain momentum while progressing two renewable hybrid power opportunities for remote mining operations.

Our work supported EDL through the feasibility and project development phases for two hybrid power station projects that reflect the mining sector’s shift towards lower-emission, off-grid energy solutions.
At St Ives, public sources describe the renewable microgrid as a major decarbonisation initiative for Gold Fields, intended to increase renewable energy supply at the mine and reduce operational emissions. At Bellevue, public announcements described the early works agreement with EDL as a key step in developing an off-grid hybrid power solution using wind, solar, battery and thermal generation.
For EDL, our support helped progress the project management, design coordination, procurement and constructability inputs needed during early-stage development. For the broader resources sector, the projects show how hybrid power systems can support reliable mine operations while helping clients move towards lower-carbon energy supply.
