Service Line Leader – Groundwater
RPS has provided a range of services to support the landmark urban renewal precinct of Port Coogee in Western Australia.
With a vision to transform 80 hectares of underutilised industrial land into a mixed-use coastal community, Port Coogee is one of Australia’s largest marina development projects. A high-profile urban renewal initiative, success was very much reliant on a strategic approach to approvals, site remediation and environmental impact management.
Responsible for preparing the project’s environmental review and approvals, RPS provided technical advice on contamination remediation and environmental impact management for Port Coogee’s 300 boat pen marina and residential development.
Our water specialists designed a groundwater interception drain complete with an aquifer reinjection system to prevent nutrient-rich groundwater entering the new marina. The solution has improved the quality of water while providing a third pipe irrigation option for use across parklands and private households.
Seagrass monitoring, groundwater and marina water quality assessment has been ongoing post-construction with associated compliance reporting. Our team is engaged on an ongoing basis to assist Port Coogee’s developer to comply with environmental monitoring obligations that were a Ministerial condition for development approval.
