Logan to Gold Coast faster rail business case

RPS project investment and finance consultants have supported the Queensland Government to develop a business case for investment in a new faster rail link between Logan and the Gold Coast.

Improving connections for South East Queensland

Population growth forecasts suggest that an extra 1.2 million people will call the region home by 2036 and the Queensland Government is investing heavily in rail infrastructure projects and network improvements. A key priority has been improving connections between major urban hubs like Brisbane, Logan, the Gold Coast and Ipswich.

With the delivery of Cross River Rail underway, rail line between Kuraby and Beenleigh is the next critical bottleneck on the Gold Coast Line. Given that it is expected the number of train services between Beenleigh and the Gold Coast will need to double in coming decades, the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project was identified and progressed to the business case stage.

The project involves increasing the number of tracks between Kuraby and Beenleigh from 2 to 4 tracks, with modernised rail systems, station upgrades, and level crossing removals.

RPS was called on by government to lead the development of the business case to present a compelling investment case to the Queensland and Australian governments to invest in this critical public transport project for communities in Logan and the Gold Coast.

Our infrastructure consultants led the development of the business case for the Faster Rail project, exploring options and gathering evidence to help stakeholders evaluate the costs and benefits of investment.

Responsible for managing all aspects of the business case’s development, our team provided governance, strategic advisory services, content direction and drafting services.

Strategic alignment with state and federal assessment frameworks

Upon completion of the business case and confirmation of the successful bid for the 2032 Olympics and Paralympic Games, our team supported accelerated efforts to engage with key stakeholders on the need for increased public transport capacity between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The RPS team played a key role in supporting government to secure $2.6 billion in funding commitments for the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project.
