Challenge
Initially the domain of aeronautic research and testing for the aviation, space and defence sector, vertical wind tunnels have become a recreational haven for thrill-seekers—‘flyers’—looking to hone their skydiving skills, or give the sport a try without the need for a plane.
With the sport growing in popularity, RPS was engaged by Indoor Skydiving Group Australia to deliver a new iFLY facility in Perth, Western Australia, and an AirRider centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Solution
In Perth, the iFLY project was a new build facility requiring the integration of specified technology into a bespoke engineered structure. Completed in 2016, the 3.65m diameter wind tunnel is the first and only indoor skydiving facility to be built in Perth to date.
This was followed by the AirRider Malaysia project which was integrated into the popular 1Utama shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur. From feasibility to design and construction, our team supported delivery with an extension to the largest shopping complex in the southern hemisphere.
