A day of thrilling activities and team spirit
The team participated in exciting activities challenging their coordination, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Attendees competed in an array of water-related activities, including exhilarating kayak racing and raft racing, as well as a fierce game of tug-of-war.
Raffles added to the excitement, offering fantastic prizes such as bottles of champagne, trophies, Lego sets, and even a big-screen plasma TV for the lucky winners.
An idyllic setting with a meaningful purpose
Set around the beautiful backdrop of Rutland Water and covering 4,200 acres of lush countryside, the park was surrounded by hundreds of individuals all representing their organisation and partaking in the brilliant cause. Despite a chilly breeze. the day was packed with high-energy, laughter, and a shared sense of purpose.
Senior Modeller, Joao Gouveia Quaresma, captured the essence of the event “It’s great to see everyone together here for one significant cause. Despite the tough weather, everyone is having a lot of fun and that makes it all quite nice and gets you into the spirit of the day.”
Supporting a life-changing cause
The event was held to raise money for Water Aid's The Beacon Project, helping support their work towards ending the water, sanitation, and hygiene crisis around the world.
The Beacon Project was established in 2017 to bring clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene to every person living in Lahan, a small town in south-eastern Nepal. They aim to deliver universal, sustainable, and safe access to these three essentials by 2030.
Technical Director at RPS, Michael Hurley, adds “It’s good to be able to contribute to this cause for Water Aid. We love the work that they do around the world giving people clean water and getting communities back on their feet, and it’s amazing we are all able to be here together, contributing to that.”
A record-breaking fundraiser
The event was a resounding success, raising an astounding £91,000 for WaterAid, surpassing last year’s record.
Technical Manager, Matthew Frost, concludes “We are proud to support Anglian Water Services and their partner WaterAid and help make a difference in the lives of those who need water the most. Being able to give back to our community is such an important thing and RPS is always looking for opportunities to do so. By us all being here, we hope we can help others and make a difference.”
Looking forward
The Rutland Regatta was more than just a day of fun; it was a testament to the power of community and collaboration in making a real difference in the world.
With the continued support of organisations like RPS and the dedication of individuals committed to humanitarian causes, initiatives like WaterAid's Beacon Project can continue to transform lives globally.
