Revitalising defence infrastructure

Jessica Ho, Senior Project Manager

Jessica Ho, RPS Project Manager is standing out front of Flinders Street Train Station in Melbourne CBD.

Jessica Ho is a Senior Project Manager with a background in architecture and a love for local restaurants. She works mainly across the education and defence sectors, with 19 years of experience under her belt working in complex environments across multiple projects. We caught up with Jessica to learn about her work on Melbourne’s Victoria Barracks, her aspirations to work on an iconic building, and her love for the Melbourne food scene.

QTell us about what you do at RPS

I work as a Senior Project Manager in client-side consulting, primarily in the education and defence sectors. A typical day working on a project will involve engaging with relevant clients and stakeholders, leading a small project team and making sure everything’s moving along like it should be.

I’m currently working on the Victoria Barracks redevelopment down on St Kilda Road – the base has a lot of old buildings and infrastructure which we’re hoping to upgrade. We’re also hoping to construct a new building to provide the barracks’ staff with modern accommodation and facilities.

Quick Q&A

Coffee spot?

Brother Baba Budan on Little Bourke Street.

Footy team?

Collingwood, I’m a big Pies supporter.

How long have you lived in Melbourne?

I moved here from London nearly 12 years ago and have been living in Melbourne ever since.

Favourite place to spend time in Melbourne?

Other than having brunch at a café, I love being by the seaside.

QIs there a project you look back on as a real career highlight?

When I was working as an architect in London I was part of a team designing three thirty-storey towers in Azerbaijan. It was a real challenge and gave me a great opportunity to delve into my creative side.

QWhat would a dream project look like to you?

I would love to be a part of creating a civic building like an arts or exhibition centre – something iconic like Federation Square. A dream job would involve playing a part in the development of a large, high-profile infrastructure project.

QWhat makes you proud to call yourself a Victorian?

Definitely the food and the culture. Melbourne has so many great cafes and restaurants, and our food scene is so diverse. We’ve got a strong community built around eating and drinking, and there’s a big social aspect to it too.
