RPS PM recognised in 2024 Honours List

RPS Project Manager Laurence Marin is set to receive an Australia Day Achievement Medallion (ADAM), in recognition of outstanding achievements in infrastructure projects for the Australian Federal Police (AFP). 

The 2024 AFP Commissioner’s Honours List acknowledged Laurence for his service to the frontline in providing three, fit-for-purpose SHIELD facilities in Central, Western, and Eastern Commands. 

The SHIELD facilities are vital to the AFP’s commitment to the health and wellbeing of its workforce. As a national initiative, SHIELD has three permanent medical facilities in Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney, which focus on preventative health, early intervention, and clinical capabilities. Through SHIELD, the AFP minimises harm, increases efficiencies, improves appointees’ experiences, and sustains operational capacities.  

Each year the AFP Commissioner’s Honours List acknowledges dedication and commitment of individuals to the AFP’s core business outcomes and corporate values. While the ADAM is part of the annual Australia Day Awards, managed by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. The medallions are awarded in recognition of exceptional performance in special projects or core duties, by Government departments and agencies, not-for-profit organisations, and corporate entities.

RPS Practice Lead Jacquelyn Lavercombe says, the prestigious award is fitting for her colleague who joined RPS two years ago, and instantly was embedded within the AFP.  

“It is a lovely validation of the hard work that Laurence does as a project manager to produce project outcomes that benefits the AFP, and far exceeds their expectations. While he’s worked on SHIELD, his full project portfolio with the AFP also extends beyond that.” 

“Laurence is often provided with unsolicited testimonials due to the effort he puts into AFP project outcomes and his ability to get projects out of the planning phase and get them delivered,” she adds. 

According to Laurence this sort of recognition is very humbling. 

“I’m tremendously honoured to have been nominated and subsequently a recipient of such a prestigious award”. 

He says, it’s rewarding to see the impact these fit-for-purpose facilities have already made for members. 

“They are continuously being rolled out to all States and Territories across Australia, and I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to deliver such a critical need for the AFP and their members.”

“Whilst this is an individual recognition, it could not have been achieved without various other RPS Staff members, both locally and interstate, who played a vital part in the delivery of these facilities and I extend my thanks to all involved,” he adds. 

RPS currently has four project managers working with the AFP permanently in Canberra, delivering projects around the country. 

In 2021, the RPS team that worked on the AFP's Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) received the AFP Commissioners Group Citation for Conspicuous Conduct. Paul O'Sullivan, Kirsty Barry, Eric Doakes and Ewen Lee were the recipients of that award. 

Jacquelyn says, “It’s so great that two years on we continue to achieve high levels of service/project outcomes for the AFP.” 

Laurence will be formally presented with the ADAM in coming months.
