Macmillan Coffee Mornings are held annually to support people living with cancer, with thousands of individuals across the UK taking part. On 27th September, the RPS teams decided to take advantage of the opportunity and be a part of the salient cause.
Both offices were jam-packed with a delicious array of cakes, brownies, muffins, and the smoky smell of frothy coffee rising in the air. And while the teams’ intentions remained giving, no one could pass a chance to show off some serious baking skills.
In the Glasgow office, judges were assigned to decide the winning baker. There was tough competition, but in the end, Ellie Cameron was awarded the top prize with a scrumptious Biscoff cheesecake, intricately criss-crossed with crisp biscuits and dapped with scoops of lush icing. In addition to this, the team also played games which were included in the pack sent by MacMillan.
Rebekah Coulson, Graduate Modeller at RPS, helped organise the event in Derby. “I think it’s a great cause and the Macmillan charity does some amazing work to support people through such a tough time. I know when I was younger, and we lost one of my great grandparents to cancer, the charity helped my family tremendously with funeral steps and being there for my family to talk to. A few weeks before this event had all been organised, I also learnt of an old colleague passing from cancer as well.”
The event turned into a fantastic occasion for the team to come together, laugh, bond, and share their and their loved ones’ personal experiences with Cancer.
Stacy Nicolson, Office Admin, has been organising MacMillan fundraisers for many years and arranged this event for the team in Glasgow as well. “MacMillan coffee mornings are a great way to bring people together and boost office morale while also raising money for a very worthwhile cause. Thank you to everyone who took part and donated to the MacMillan Coffee Morning, especially our bakers and judges who all did an amazing job.”
Steve Hogg, Managing Director for the Water Consulting team, said "Our RPS employees have a history of being proactive and getting involved in supporting great charities with a variety of events. I'm really pleased that their hard work in organising this coffee morning went so well, whilst bonding and raising a brilliant sum for a great cause."
Rebekah reiterates the significance of these events. “Something like cancer that can affect anyone at any time really strikes close to the heart, and it is charities like McMillan that are there for anyone going through this struggle. They deserve as much as we can give through these sorts of special events.”
