Green light for solar farm near Stockton-on-Tees

15 Dec 2020

We’re thrilled to announce that planning permission has been granted for Thorpe Bank solar farm, a 32 Megawatt renewable energy facility near Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham.

Once commissioned, the project will provide a renewable energy source equivalent to the annual electricity needs of approximately 7,000 homes.

Our multi-disciplinary team provided Planning Consultancy and environmental services including Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, Heritage Consultancy, Flood Risk Assessment, Arboricultural Impact Assessment and a Construction Traffic Management Plan.

This marks our first planning permission for Lightsource bp, a new client to our Oxford Planning team.

Richard Moore, Senior Planner in the Oxford Planning team said “We are delighted to confirm that the Lightsource bp Thorpe Bank project received planning approval on 11th December 2020. The application was approved 10 weeks after submission, thanks in part to the robust assessment and justification provided by RPS."

“For the UK to transition to a Net Zero Carbon economy by 2050, it is critical that renewable and low-carbon projects are approved without delay. This solar farm will make a valuable contribution to the generation of renewable energy at a local level.”
