30 Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia, project shortlisting for BREEAM award.

14 Mar 2022

We’re delighted to announce we’ve been shortlisted for a BREEAM Homes – Post Construction Award for our 30 Charlotte Street project in London.

The mixed-use Charlotte Street building in Fitzrovia was a former restaurant in need of repairs and modernisation. The client, Shaftesbury, owns and manages a 16 acre property portfolio in the London’s West End including Carnaby, Chinatown, Seven Dials, Soho and Fitzrovia. They operate a strategy of extending the useful life of buildings through reconfiguration and refurbishment which by definition is inherently sustainable. Working with the client’s project team (Fresson & Tee and LS Build), RPS provided the BREEAM support as part of the refurbishment of the property into three residential units.

We helped play a part in managing and mitigating the project’s environmental impact. This involved us aligning with requirements to reduce carbon emissions. By doing so, the sustainability of the  project was demonstrated during planning, design, construction and operation.

Akshatha Veerendra, Principal Consultant and project lead comments: “This has been an exciting refurbishment project to be a part of. The entire team has been fantastic in delivering BREEAM targets. It’s important assessors get involved with the project at the early stages. This is so the client and all the team has the opportunity to discuss the most suitable sustainability strategy and maximise energy and cost savings.

The BREEAM Homes category shortlist comprises highly complex projects in urban contexts, which are all aiming to deliver homes focusing on comfort and sustainable living. The awards will take place March 22nd, and we wish everyone involved the best of luck!
