Striving for carbon neutrality, all three developments are based on existing housing to improve the environmental performance of their retained estate, facilitating cost and energy savings whilst improving the quality of the built environment.
In 2020, we adapted our service and approach in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions. This required us to consult with stakeholders in innovative ways that included online presentations, consultations, and materials.
In our role as Project Manager and MDDT Lead, we have been central to the coordination of the consultant team and reduced additional capital costs through robust design and balanced design solutions. Key to this was our management of the MEP strategy and design, the Passivhaus consultant, and architect, energy, overheating and daylight constraints. Well considered solutions around ventilation, shading, and layouts also contributed to the delivery of a workable and accredited solution.
Throughout the planning process, we worked alongside the client, planning consultant, and architect to deliver a structured planning strategy and programme. This included assisting the client in the preparation of feasibilities and business cases for the proposed development. We also worked with the wider design team and client during negotiations with planning authorities, as well as in the delivery of the public consultation and engagement piece.
A detailed appraisal of the designs was undertaken by the team and recommendations were incorporated into the designs where feasible. Our team’s technical expertise and swift reactive response to the changed brief was critical to ensuring that potential impacts in terms of both programme and cost were mitigated effectively. The design changes have successfully reduced heating demand, energy consumption, and carbon emissions while improving the long-term performance of the buildings, which are forecasted to achieve net zero operational carbon onsite.
