Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link
RPS is providing commercial and technical advisory services to support one of Sydney’s largest road infrastructure enhancement project proposals – the Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link.
Challenge
As primary road corridors between the North Shore, Northern Beaches, Inner West and CBD, congestion on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Anzac Bridge and Sydney Harbour Tunnel have become major pain points for Sydney’s urban transport network.
To alleviate capacity issues and mitigate the impact of congestion on connectivity and productivity, the NSW State Government is planning a new motorway and tunnel project that will significantly reduce travel times and improve traffic flows.
Solution
RPS has fulfilled a range of roles to support the Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link and prepare for a successful progression of the project through the scoping, planning, business case and reference design phases.
With the proposed project to be delivered in areas that are already highly congested and with several other significant urban transport transformation projects such as Sydney Metro and multiple Light Rail already underway, ensuring that the Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link project can be delivered with as little impact to the community as possible has been a top priority for the Government.
Our advisors have contributed their expertise to the development of the business case while shaping the processes and governance structures through which Transport for NSW will engage with the market, develop the design and prepare for a successful community engagement and environmental assessment phase.
