Commercial development
The Gateway
Our quantity surveying team has supported the development of a landmark new commercial project, The Gateway, for the Newcastle City Council in New South Wales.
Challenge
Designed as a showcase commercial building for a city in the process of economic transition, the development of The Gateway included the expansion of the site to an additional 23,300m2 across six storeys, along with carparking facilities.
To progress the development and delivery of the building, RPS was engaged to provide quantity surveying expertise.
Solution
Completed in 2019, the award-winning building design features a striking exterior curtain wall that gives a unique sense of movement to the building, and a sweeping spiral staircase that offers a rare sense of connection across floors.
Initially engaged to prepare a cost report for submission to Newcastle City Council as part of the project’s stage 1 development application, our team was subsequently contracted to provide quantity surveying services to the project financier during the stage 2 delivery phase.
To progress the development and delivery of the site, we provided a range of quantity surveying services to support cost-effective construction, including helping the developers navigate quantity and cost implications when the additional building levels were approved. Our team also assisted the key stakeholders to understand and account for the impact of updated design criteria when a decision was made to integrate fitout works for anchor tenants with the base build.
