New rail stations for Sydney
Sydney Metro
RPS has been engaged by Transport for NSW and its delivery partners to support a once-in-a-generation revitalisation of Sydney’s urban rail network.
Challenge
RPS is supporting the development of Sydney Metro - a multi-phase project that will provide high frequency ‘turn up and go’ transport options for Australia’s largest city. Sydney Metro will deliver 31 new rail stations between the city’s northwest and southwest via the CBD.
Our team was engaged to assist with the development of Sydney Metro - Northwest (Stage 1) which delivered eight new metro stations between Rouse Hill and Chatswood, and Sydney Metro - City & Southwest (Stage 2) which continued the line from Chatswood to the CBD and now west to Bankstown. We are also providing project development services for phase 3 of the project - Sydney Metro – West - which will connect the central business districts of Parramatta and Sydney city.
Solution
Working as a key partner to Transport for NSW within its integrated project delivery office, our team is helping to drive efficiencies for Sydney Metro’s business case development, major package procurement and infrastructure delivery, while streamlining the multi-stage approvals process and engaging with stakeholders to ensure delivered outcomes meet community need.
We’ve provided transport modelling, commercial, property and delivery advice to support development of Sydney Metro’s business cases, in addition to management consulting services for Sydney Metro’s program and corporate functions as the project transitions to a statutory authority.
Providing strategic oversight throughout the development of Sydney Metro's Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), our team has led the coordination of specialist studies, engagement with government agencies and management of EIS public exhibition processes.
RPS stands for rail project success
With major tunnelling and construction works planned across some of Sydney’s busiest residential and commercial areas, communication and engagement with community stakeholders has been pivotal in keeping Sydney Metro’s delivery strategy on track.
Our communications and creative consultants have been seconded to the Sydney Metro delivery team to assist with community engagement, media and public relations, while RPS transaction specialists are maximising value for the project through strategic procurement and transaction management advice on high value major works contracts via Design and Construction, Incentivised Target Cost, Program Framework and Public Private Partnership models.
As the project’s design and delivery have progressed, our survey and heritage teams have assisted Sydney Metro’s engineers and planners to make informed decisions about route selection, avoid construction clashes with water, electricity and other utilities, investigate and protect the city’s heritage and environmental assets.
