Seaview Hotel redevelopment
Our Townsville team is contributing to a $5 million redevelopment of heritage-listed pub The Seaview Hotel.
Challenge
With tourism a vital contributor to the economy of North Queensland, waterfront venues are a hot ticket investment. Since 2018, RPS has been supporting the owner of one such venue–the Paul Irvin Hotel Group, to reimagine a Townsville institution.
With the oldest part of the current Seaview Hotel constructed in 1929, the pub is heritage listed, meaning careful planning and historically-conscious design were a key part of the redevelopment brief for this much-loved Townsville venue.
Solution
Working closely with client Paul Irvin Hotel Group, lead design consultant Darren Dickfos Architects and Townsville City Council, RPS has provided a range of planning, heritage and design expertise to the support the project's progression from scoping to design, approval and construction.
Laser scanning was undertaken by our surveyors to establish a detailed picture of the building’s features–in particular the heritage-protected façade–while our planning consultants have facilitated a collaborative approvals process to help stakeholders navigate the conservation measures required for development approval. As part of this process, our heritage team undertook a full Heritage Assessment and prepared a Conservation Management Plan for the site.
Development approval for the new-look Seaview Hotel was secured by our planning team in 2019, with construction commencing in early 2020.
