Revamp for Lerwin Nursing Home
Our project management team supports South Australia’s rural City of Murray Bridge by providing stakeholder management for the renovation of the Lerwin Nursing Home.
Challenge
Thanks to funding from the Department of Health and the Murray Bridge Council, the green light was given to begin a major renovation and expansion of the aged care facility, Lerwin Nursing Home in Murray Bridge, South Australia.
Catering to high-need elderly residents, the upgrade would provide much needed investment for Lerwin Nursing Home to increase the number of rooms, modernise the facility and continue to meet the needs of the residents.
As this is an existing facility, the renovation would mean that the residents would be required to relocate for part of the project.
To mitigate the complex challenges of the resident relocation and site renovation, an in depth stakeholder management plan was required for managing the communications with the residents and their families, staff, surrounding businesses and stakeholders, medical providers, and other contractors.
Solution
RPS’ Adelaide project management team utilised their extensive healthcare industry knowledge and experience managing works in live environments to coordinate the stakeholder management plan of the renovation.
Regular stakeholder communications throughout each stage of the renovation were key to the project’s success. In particular, monthly ‘town hall’ meetings were held with the residents and their families providing the opportunity for updates on the renovation progress and future works, and to give the residents the opportunity to have a voice in the project. Project newsletters were also delivered to residents and families unable to attend the meetings.
Outcome
The renovations of Lerwin Nursing Home is expected to be completed in December 2020. Our team will continue to provide stakeholder communication and management solutions for the duration of the project.
Once complete, residents will be able to enjoy the comfortable environment of freshly revamped rooms, a modernised café and lounge area and a spacious area to relax with the new internal courtyard. The facility will also have an additional five beds, taking the capacity from 75 to 80.
