Occupational Health Services for Retail

In 2015, our Occupational Health team went through a vigorous tender process to secure the contract to provide our client with a range of occupational health services - with headquarters in North West England, a main distribution centre in the Midlands and over 700 stores UK wide. In 2019 RPS entered the second year of a two-year contract extension.

Challenge

With the client having over 700 stores across the UK, RPS invested significant time and resources, from our account manager and senior clinicians, to visit our clients sites to fully appreciate their unique needs and be able to create a tailored occupational health service that was suitable for their requirements.

Requirements:

  • On-site risk-based health surveillance at the distribution centre
  • Management referrals via face to face consultations as well as via telephone and Skype consultations - both remote types of consultations have been particularly effective for their widespread branches across the UK
  • The provision of detailed management information which is presented at regular account management meetings

Support

Our approach to working with our client has ensured a close and effective working relationship with their stakeholders which has resulted in a significant reduction in sickness absence and the associated financial savings, and an efficient and effective occupational health service that is proactive and preventative.

Remote services have been a great benefit to the company, particularly management referrals where 86% have been carried out via telephone consultations which results in less downtime for employees attending appointments.

We also provide assistance with early referral into the service which results in an earlier return to work for employees. We see approximately 48-50% of employees who at the time of referral are still at work. We support to prevent employees from needing to take time off sick and provide advice and recommendations on how the company can support their employees.
