The North Two project delivered the world’s first multi-storey mass air cooled data centre, an 11-storey, tier 3 data centre facility, spanning 23,133 ft2 and expanding the Telehouse London Docklands campus real estate footprint to a total of 770,523 ft2.
As the primary home of the London Internet Exchange (LINX), the data centre provides landlord’s critical services, the completion of two initial data halls, delivery of shell and core technical space for future phased fit-out, alterations to the original north building data centre control room, as well as a new link air bridge and associated external works.

Challenge
To extend the Telehouse London docklands data centre campus, one of the most data connected locations in the world, with a state of the art new building providing a self-contained data centre, together with providing more than 18MW of IT power and IAC IT cooling.
Solution
This two-year project was delivered in London docklands on a site that was previously the East India Dock where ships unloaded their Victorian cargos. The infill and made up ground resulted in 69m deep concrete piles to support a massive multi-storey building with huge DC floor loadings.
Our roles as project director, strategic advisor and project managers involved the provision of board level campus strategy advice, project management and technical coordination of the consultant and Telehouse teams across all the expert disciplines. More than 600 operatives were deployed on site at the height of construction activity.
The world’s first multi storey mass air cooled data centre, Telehouse North Two has been launched into the worldwide data services network and helps power the UK digital economy and the rest of the world.
The design and construction of the project won the DCS Award: Data Centre Energy Efficiency Project of the Year and it was further shortlisted in a secondary category: New Design/Build Data Centre Project of the Year.
