RPS provides many services to support both government and private industry clients in incident response and planning. We can provide capability assessments, response plan development, response exercise design, evaluation, and coaching, and training, including Incident Command System (ICS) and IMO model courses on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation.
From 16-24 August, RPS supported the United Nations Regional Marine Pollution Emergency, Information and Training Centre – Caribe in conducting 2 National Oil Spill Contingency Planning (NOSCP) workshops in the Caribbean Sea. A workshop was held for the authorities of the Commonwealth of Dominica (August 16-18) and for the authorities of the Dominican Republic (August 22-24). These oil spill preparedness and response workshops were an outstanding opportunity to share RPS’ extensive knowledge and experience with these nations in order to assist with updating and gaining approval on the NOSCPs.
Discussions included various response strategies and policies and the Manual and Tool to Evaluate Oil Spill Management Capabilities developed by ARPEL, a non-profit association of oil, gas, and renewable energy sector companies and institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean (RETOS). RPS provided a detailed presentation and demonstration of the oil spill modeling capabilities of its OILMAP, oil fate and trajectory model, and how it can be used for regional geographic response plans for the various national stakeholders of the Dominican Republic, including the Ministry of Environment (Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales) the Navy of the Dominican Republic (Armada de la República Dominicana), and the Center of Emergency Operations (Centro de Operaciones de Emergencia).
RPS is uniquely capable to assist clients with their response efforts by using our proprietary, world-renowned oil spill model to predict oil movement and develop a response plan based on these predictions. The model can test actual response strategies, such as mechanical recovery, surface and subsea dispersant application, and in situ burning, and evaluate their effectiveness.
In addition, RPS provides an active 24/7 response modeling service with clients ranging from major oil and gas operators to government agencies responsible for Tier 3 spill intervention and management. We have responded to many incidents, ranging from small vessel spills to long-term subsea blowouts. RPS provides a second-to-none service that calls on the expertise of response specialists, oceanographers, numerical modelers, and software engineers with decades of experience.
