Gippsland Renewable Energy Zone: G-REZ

Creating a system to deliver renewable energy

G-REZ is a renewable energy zone in Gippsland, Victoria. It’s a green energy project that will coordinate the delivery of renewable energy from multiple generators/sources in the region to the electricity grid.

It is the first of its kind in Victoria and will help create the energy infrastructure needed to transition the state to a renewable energy system – and ultimately meet net zero targets.

For the G-REZ project to succeed, it requires a range of approvals along with support from the community and local stakeholders, including local businesses, industry, and landowners.

Engaging the community and stakeholders

In September 2020, AusNet Services engaged RPS to work on the feasibility and development of the project.

Our consultants drew on their extensive experience in major infrastructure and renewable energy projects to develop a comprehensive community and stakeholder engagement program. The fit-for-purpose methodology combined face-to-face and digital tools to create a nimble program, while incorporating our Community Benefit Sharing Strategy to help identify and deliver benefits beyond the project’s direct economic value.

RPS’ services to date have included:

• Community and stakeholder engagement

• Development of strategies and frameworks

• Workshop facilitation

• Development of creative content, including animations and graphically designed materials

• Development of digital content, including virtual engagement rooms.

By providing the right resources at the right time, RPS has delivered on agreed objectives and added new value for AusNet Services and G-REZ, including a social advisory and a public relations campaign to further engage with the community and drive shared benefits.
