For nearly a decade, we’ve been advising Dublin Port Company (DPC) on the sustainable development of Dublin Port’s infrastructure to support the future growth of Ireland’s largest port.
After delivering the consents for the first two Strategic Infrastructure Development (SID) projects, the ABR and MP2 projects, we were appointed to provide all environmental services and outline design to deliver planning consent for the Third and Final Masterplan Project (3FM Project) to bring Dublin Port to its ultimate capacity by 2040.

Challenge
Our client’s aim is to prepare for Dublin Port’s future growth and long-term needs. Planning early ensures they are ready to build essential port capacity in advance of demand.
The Dublin Port Masterplan 2040 encapsulates this vision and sets out DPC’s delivery plan through three Strategic Infrastructure Development (SID) Projects at a cost of €1.6 billion.
The Third and Final Masterplan Project (3FM Project) has now been launched by DPC which will deliver 20% of the capacity required by 2040, with a new Lift-on Lift-Off (Lo-Lo) terminal and a new Roll-on Roll-Off (Ro-Ro) freight terminal - all located on the Poolbeg Peninsula, at an estimated cost of €450 million.
DPC appointed us through the existing Environmental and Planning Frameworks for capital works projects to carry out the full range of specialist environmental services, including outline design to deliver planning consent for the 3FM Project.

“We have been monitoring for the best part of a decade now to understand the various habitats and how we can manage the construction and operation of the project so that we can coexist together with this important environment, both for the wildlife and the people of Dublin,” explains Dr Alan Barr, Senior Director, RPS.
We will coordinate all environmental elements of the SID planning application, licencing process and the design of the project, drawing on support from six RPS offices led by the port specialists from our Belfast office.
