Dubbo Hospital redevelopment

RPS is supporting the redevelopment of Dubbo Hospital in the Orana region of New South Wales.

Challenge

RPSโ€™ NSW project management team was engaged in 2017 as Project Director for the redevelopment of Dubbo Hospital in the stateโ€™s central west. Operating for more than 150 years, the hospital provides a vital primary health service for Dubbo and surrounding regional communities.

Since it was first established in 1860s the hospital has had many additions over time. Understanding the the site's infrastructure needed significant upgrades, The NSW Government has prioritised the redevelopment to ensure Dubbo Hospital can cater to the needs of the community long into the future.

Solution

Bringing decades of experience managing complex social and other infrastructure program delivery, our project management team was brought on board to manage Stages 3 and 4 of the hospitalโ€™s redevelopment, along with the construction of a brand new oncology facilityโ€”the Western Cancer Centre Dubbo (WCCD).

Managing works within the context of an operational hospital site, our team has carefully coordinated not only contractors, programming and costs, but has supported health stakeholders to relocate (decant) multiple hospital departments into temporary facilities while construction takes place, before moving them into their newly commissioned facilities.

Department relocations have included Dubbo Hospital's:

  • Emergency department and short-stay unit
  • Medical imaging unit
  • Surgical inpatient unit
  • Coronary care/stroke unit
  • Intensive care unit (ICU)
  • Cardiac catheter laboratory.
