RPS was engaged to provide a range of surveying, landscape design and project management services to support Queenslandโs preparation for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Taking place on the Gold Coast in 2018, the XXI Commonwealth Games was the biggest sporting event ever hosted outside of an Australian capital city. With some competition streams scheduled to take place in the partner cities of Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville, preparing for the Games was a complex task for organisers managing operations across a distance of approximately 1,700 km.

In a program of works spanning several years, RPS completed survey works to inform the effective design and timely retrofitting of venues throughout North and South East Queensland. Our work included layouts for stadiums and Games operations (media, ticketing and sales), as well as pivotal support infrastructure including roads and pathways.
RPS also completed landscape design for the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre at Southport, which hosted swimming, diving and other aquatic events, while our project management team was contracted to oversee the delivery of temporary venue installations including the Coolangatta Volleyball Stadium and Carrara Stadium.
