Kings Place is an iconic prime mixed-use building located on the Regents Canal in Central London and is in close proximity to King’s Cross St Pancras Station. Built in 2008, Kings Place consists of 31,000m2 of open plan office space, across eight floors. The ground and lower floors incorporate two world class concert halls as well as arts, events and restaurant facilities.
RPS carried out a BREEAM In-Use assessment for Kings Place, on both Parts 1 (asset rating) and 2 (building management). After working effectively with the building management team a BREEAM rating of Excellent (Part 1) and Outstanding (Part 2) was achieved.
The Outstanding rating of 95% achieved in Kings Pace is the highest operational sustainability rating ever accomplished in the UK and one of the highest ratings ever achieved under BREEAM certification globally.
Kings Place was the winner of the Offices In-Use category at the BREEAM Awards 2017.

RPS has been working closely with the global real estate services provider, which manages Kings Place, to ensure high sustainability standards in their new and operational buildings. The BREEAM In-Use assessment at Kings Place helped support this programme by incorporating a targeted programme of incremental improvements within the property’s operations and activities.
The RPS team guided the building management team to achieve sustainable building management. To accomplish this, we advised on making bespoke changes to the operation of Kings Place. These included: changes aiming to reduce and accurately monitor energy and water consumption; commissioning internal light and air quality surveys to better understand occupier health & wellbeing; installing secure cycle racks and shower facilities to support green travel; enhancing the existing green roof to encourage greater biodiversity and providing separate collection of recyclable waste to meet occupier needs.
