Bank of South Pacific data and operations centres, Papua New Guinea

RPS managed the design and delivery of a data centre and disaster recovery centre for the Bank of South Pacific in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Challenge

RPS was engaged by the Bank of South Pacific to oversee the development of two business critical data infrastructure facilities featuring ‘N2’ redundancy, to ensure there could be no single point of failure in the system. Together, these projects were worth around 170M Papua New Guinea Kina (PGK) or around $85M Australian (AUD).

Complex initiatives to deliver within the context of a developing nation, our project management team guided both projects from the 90% detailed design phase through to commissioning, handover and the completion of the defects liability period.

Solution

Procuring and managing the supply of technical equipment required negotiations to secure tripartite contracts from Europe, Australia and Papua New Guinea. Our team drew on significant experience engaging with the market and negotiating with suppliers and stakeholders around the world.

Working closely with the client, designers, contractors and other stakeholders, our project managers we able to resolve technical issues stemming from an inability to procure specified equipment or engage relevant technical experts locally, along with significant design challenges arising from development in an area prone to earthquakes.
