Sponsoring the pursuit of innovation at Invent 2019
As naturally inquisitive people, we place a strong value on exploring the latest technologies and facilitating innovative thinking to find solutions to complex challenges. Committed to not only exploring, but also facilitating innovation and the next generation of big ideas; Managing Director of our Northern Ireland business, Dr. Michael Shaw sat on the judging panel alongside four other judges as 24 entrepreneurs pitched their ideas in front of a live studio audience.
Showcasing local innovations and ideas with the greatest commercial potential, Invent challenges innovators, entrepreneurs, scientists and start-ups to develop their proof of concept idea over a nine-month period in a bid to win a share of the £33,000 prize fund.
“We are extremely proud to sponsor the Invent Semi Final. Invent showcases and highlights the wonderful talent and amazing innovations we have here in Northern Ireland” Michael comments. “It really is a special experience and I truly believe that some of what we are seeing here today will become solutions of the future.”
Joining Michael on the judging panel were Siobhan Clarke: Episode 1 Ventures, Chris Wardle: Foresight Group, Edel Coen: Draper Esprit and Gavin Kennedy: Bank of Ireland.
Twelve entrepreneurs have secured their place in the final and will go forward to pitch to more than 700 investors, entrepreneurs, executives, students and researchers on Thursday 10 October 2019.
Invent Programme Manager Jessica Caldwell reflected on the evening of innovation. She said, “the quality of entries just gets better every year. Each team had just three minutes to convince the judges that their solution for the problem they identified has great commercial potential – our twelve finalists did an outstanding job and they are brilliant examples of Northern Ireland’s booming knowledge economy.”
