RPS’ laboratories have secured a five-year contract to provide a range of analytical services to Welsh Water for the third phase of their Chemical Investigations Programme (CIP3).
Our teams have worked with Welsh Water on their previous CIP2 programme. The CIP3 project builds on the previous phases by looking at chemicals within the catchment that have been shown to exceed environmental quality standards in the context of the Water Framework Directive.
Catchment based investigations will be conducted to pinpoint potential sources and trends, while expanding the list of emerging contaminants to be monitored. The programme scope has been extended to cover groundwater, estuarine and coastal water monitoring, and looks at new and existing approaches to wastewater treatment.
The results provided by our laboratories inform part of the water industry’s National Environment Programme which will guide the future of wastewater treatment and catchment management in the UK for years to come.
