RPS STAFF TACKLE AND ACE TSW LEADERSHIP COURSE

The course

The course was specifically designed for new, existing, or aspiring team leaders, managers, and supervisors to help develop their practical skills and leadership capabilities. The Training Provider, TSW (Training Services Wales), has over 50 years of experience in delivering results-driven learning solutions to improve people and business performance throughout the UK.

The course assesses each participant’s strengths and areas for development, supporting them with management tools and techniques, while monitoring their performance and assessing their goals and targets.  All the staff members participating were already in a leadership position, eager to grow their knowledge and skills and utilise this course to progress to the next exciting stage in their careers. 

Learning and Development Advisor for TSW, Marc Mears, saw a wave of positive responses from the participants in the course. “Everybody involved was taking things on board very well and interested in learning new skills and tools that they could put back into their work in a practical way.”

“They took an approach to understand their job role, what the course provides and then link it back to that description. That is really an approach that will help them make the change they want and see progression.”

Consisting of a series of interactive sessions and collaborative group work, the course supported participants in understanding the vital skills which make a leader, communication approaches, motivation techniques and managing a variety of both basic and challenging scenarios. 

For Cody, adjusting your perspective is vital to being a great trailblazer. “Depending on the level in which you work in our business, the issues you have are different. Being a good leader is about being able to see various issues from several angles. “

Cody also observes varying perspectives and processes among his colleagues as well. “Collaborating with management, project managers and supervisors on group work helped me see how many ways of working there are and how one manager may not react the same as another manager. That they also have varying viewpoints.”

Holly had a similar experience, sharing how the course helped her effectively overcome hurdles in team management. “When you communicate within your team, you see that there are different types of people who work in diverse ways, whether they work well together or prefer to work alone. By understanding how to overcome communication barriers between different types of people, you get the most out of your team and it makes for a more positive relationship.”

With something to look forward to at every step, both Cody and Holly shared their goals and aspirations, both in their career and in their future at RPS.

“At the end of the day, having a bit of progression and hunger takes you a long way. Knowing that you have a few things in your knowledge, anything that can make you a better manager, I am happy to take any advice to get me there.” 

Holly continues, “My goal is to have a team of my own. Moving through various roles and dealing with different projects has given me lots of experience. I enjoy the element of working with different people, and though project work is quite new to me, I am excited to see what happens next.”
