We have reached the next milestone on a major residential-led mixed-use development in Wantage. Located in Kingsgrove, this 92-hectare site is set to establish a new community of 1,500 homes, a new primary school, retail and leisure facilities as well as 12.5 hectares of new woodland and creative landscaping.
We are delighted to announce the successful completion and handover of the new 420-pupil two-form entry primary school to Gems Learning Trust, a non-profit educational charity.
Pupils were inducted on 21st September to Wantage Primary Academy; a contemporary school building including state-of-the-art teaching facilities as well as sports pitches, a playground and a multi-use games area.
Welcoming nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children, the school has been developed to accommodate residents of the wider Kingsgrove housing development, but will also offer places to local families in Wantage.
We provided project management, cost consultancy, employer’s agent and principal designer services to St Modwen Developments for the construction of Wantage Primary Academy. In spite of works halting in April due to COVID-19 complications, works safely recommenced in June and were reprogrammed to achieve the required September opening.
Involved from inception to completion, we led the strategic development of the site including major infrastructure works and the selection of the Design Team. The project required extensive interaction with Oxfordshire County Council as the local education authority throughout the briefing process and beyond in order to meet the complex requirements of the S106 planning demands.
