REACHing for the Top

As the first official deadline of REACH, the new European regulation to ensure safe use of chemicals by Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of CHemical substances approaches, RPS’ Delft office is ready for REACH.
The first two-day pragmatic and interactive REACH training session was run in early 2007. Now, four training sessions later (three in Delft, and one at the Dublin office) the heat is on. The members of RPS’ Toxicology and Environmental Management team are asked by industrial partners to run REACH training workshops and provide consultancy services for REACH.
The RPS REACH Action Plan© has proved to be a useful and pragmatic approach to the regulation for all industries involved. So far, RPS has helped construction companies, retailers, and importers of baby and children’s products, as well as Fortune-500 self adhesive materials manufacturers and the energy sector. Independent occupational hygienists, environmental consultants and health & safety experts have also attended the training sessions to learn more about REACH.
Tailor-made workshops have also been organised for clients, with topics varying from a basic REACH introduction to specialist workshops covering REACH exposure scenarios
New REACH products have recently been developed including a one-day intensive REACH training and REACH Audits (the latter with our RPS Ireland colleagues). Future REACH consultancy services will also include use of the evaluation methodology to discover potential endocrine disruptors. This methodology was developed by the former RPS-BKH office (in a consortium led by Dr. Ike van der Putte, EUROTOX Registered Toxicologist) in a consortium with DHI (a Danish research and consultancy organisation) in a project for the European Commission.
